We are delighted to have received so many entries for our SID2018 competition, supporting the Safer Internet Day 2018 theme, ‘Create, Connect and Share Respect: a better Internet starts with you’.

The competition generated some great Tweets. The judging was once again quite a challenge. However, we are now delighted to announce the winners.

Best Primary School Tweet

The winning entry in the Primary School category came in the form of a video from the pupils at Duneane Primary School

Our judges said, "The pupils have all got involved in the video and the catchy tune will help them to remember the key Internet safety messages they are delivering."

Kerrie Wilson, Duneane Principal added, "We are a small school in Co Antrim and all our children were involved in our internet safety rap. The children worked together to produce the lyrics and the actions to illustrate them. One of our teachers, Mrs Cuthbertson then added a touch of her musical flair! Lucky for us the PSNI were delivering a safer internet talk and happy to lend us their car. In line with the SID2018 mantra, we wanted to create something positive which promoted key safety messages. We hoped to connect to the world in a respectful way. What’s more the staff and children had such fun making it."

The entry from Walford Primary School was selected as Highly Commended in this category

Best Secondary School Tweet

The winning entry in the Secondary School category came from Felsted School

Our judges said, "This simple message is a clear reminder that information shared on the Internet is not temporary and removing unwanted messages or information is incredibly difficult."

Tina Oakley-Agar from Felsted School added, "As part of our Safer Internet Day at Felsted School, the year 9 students took up the challenge of writing a tip on how to keep safe on the Internet. There was some lively debate about how they use the Internet, their digital footprint and the risks involved. Finally, they thought about how to write a memorable tip suitable for tweeting."

The entry from Boswells School was selected as Highly Commended in this category

Safer Internet Day 2018 will take place on Tuesday 6th February with the theme ‘Create, Connect and Share Respect: a better internet starts with you.’

Celebrated globally and coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre the campaign sees hundreds of schools and organisations join together to raise awareness of online safety issues and run events and activities right across the UK.

As a result of this collective action Safer Internet Day 2017 reached 3 million children and 2 million parents across the UK.

Join the campaign to make Safer Internet Day 2018 the biggest yet!
Schools, companies, police services, charities and other organisations across the UK are invited to get involved in the campaign to inspire the safe and positive use of technology.

Last year over a thousand organisations supported the day, and you can now register as a Safer Internet Day 2018 supporter to share what you are doing to support the day.

Plans for 6th February
On the day, the campaign will create a huge buzz right across the UK and globally!

There will be national youth events, activities in schools across the UK, media coverage, a day of trending on social media, companies will spread the word to customers and employees, as we all aim to reach as many children and families across the UK as possible.

Together we can make a positive difference
As a result of hearing about Safer Internet Day 2017, an evaluation found that the majority of children spoke to their families about staying safe online while 79% felt more confident about what to do about any worries online. As a result of the day, 1 in 4 young people said they spoke up about something that had been worrying them online.

Together we can make SID2018 the biggest campaign yet and make a real difference to the digital lives of children right across the UK.

In the last few hours leading up to Safer Interned Day 2017, we had a flurry of entries for the acronym competition - aimed at encouraging students to come up with their own e-safety slogan.

The competition generated some great responses - it certainly made judging a challenge. We are now delighted to announce the winners.

The SID 17 competition this year was, brilliant, engaging, thought provoking and most importantly fun! We are very proud of our winning entrant. Her acronym is clever and makes a point about the futility of Cyberbullying. A large number of our pupils were, self-motivated into getting actively involved this for us, endorsed the competitions relevancy. Overall participants were provided with a wonderful opportunity to develop their, 21st century thinking skills, problem solving and creativity. Thank you”.
